Catholicos Karekin II, leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church, is being prosecuted alongside six other clergy for allegedly failing to reinstate a defrocked bishop.
In addition, Karekin II is accused of acting as a spy for Russia, which could lead to serious legal consequences. Both allegations are exacerbating the conflict between the church and the Armenian government.
