Klingbeil rules out sugar tax on sugar-free drinks
Finance Minister Klingbeil clarified that no sugar tax will be imposed on drinks with sweeteners.

Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil reaffirmed in an Instagram post that the proposed sugar tax will not extend to sugar-free drinks containing sweeteners. He pointed out concerns that taxing such beverages would not make sense.
This clarification comes amid discussions about the categories of beverages subject to the sugar tax. Klingbeil dismissed the notion that products like Cola Zero could also fall under the tax.

According to Deutschlandfunk, Klingbeil indicated in his remarks that drinks with sweeteners will be exempt from the tax. The Finance Minister thereby specified the conditions of the proposed levy and addressed public concerns.
However, the discussion surrounding the sugar tax remains active, as various interest groups continue to analyze the implications for consumers and the industry. Klingbeil's statements have left some questions about the exact regulations open, but clearly defined the exclusion of sugar-free variants.
