Left Bloc urges PSD to abandon gender identity initiative
The Left Bloc has called on the PSD not to proceed with a gender identity initiative that they deem harmful.

The Left Bloc (BE) expressed its opposition to the initiative from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) related to gender identity. The party urged the PSD, which is in government, to abandon this proposal, which they consider a copy of the "agenda of Chega," a far-right party in Portugal.
BE's statement was made in response to the PSD's intentions regarding legislation involving gender identity. The left-wing party argues that this approach is inappropriate and harmful to human rights.
Additionally, the Left Bloc emphasized that the PSD's proposal is deemed by the United Nations (UN) to be contrary to human rights. BE highlighted the responsibility of the PSD to ensure that its actions respect the principles of equality.

The BE's appeal to the PSD's conscience questions the ethics of the initiative in question, which the Bloc believes not only discredits the rights of the LGBTQ+ community but also promotes an agenda identified as regressive.
Finally, BE calls for dialogue and reflection on the importance of protecting the rights of all citizens, particularly the most vulnerable, in the creation of public policies. The party hopes that the PSD will reconsider its plans and align with a more inclusive approach.
