UN calls for withdrawal of right-wing gender identity bills
UN High Commissioner warns of potential violations of Portugal's international obligations.

The United Nations (UN) has requested the withdrawal of gender identity-related bills proposed by right-wing parties, such as the PSD and Chega. The request was made by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, who expressed concerns about how these proposals could violate the country’s international obligations.
According to Público, the High Commissioner emphasized the need to protect human rights and ensure that national laws align with the international commitments made by Portugal.

The issue of gender identity has sparked debate within the country, reflecting divisions among different political parties, especially during times of increasing polarization.
Additionally, the migration crisis in Ceuta was also mentioned, with disagreements between the Ministries of Defense and Interior, as reported by La Vanguardia. These discussions encompass not only human rights but also internal policy and security issues.
