Léon Marchand, a 24-year-old swimmer from Toulouse, won his first individual title at the European Swimming Championships this Saturday in Saint-Denis, in the 200m butterfly. This success adds to a silver medal he previously won in the men's 4 × 200m freestyle relay, according to Le Monde.

Marchand recorded a time of 1:51.72, which allowed him to triumph over Hungarian swimmer Richard Marton and Greece's Apostolos Siskos. Franceinfo points out that the reigning Olympic champion thus confirmed his position on the European stage.

Following his victory, Léon Marchand expressed his satisfaction, although he also indicated that the possibility of breaking the world record at this event was not feasible, as reported by Le Figaro. This reflects the challenges he faced during the competition.

This European title represents an important milestone in Marchand's career, solidifying his reputation as an elite swimmer after his successes at the Olympic Games.
