Lilli Tagger secures victory after rough start in Cincinnati
Tennis player Lilli Tagger has fought her way into the second round of WTA qualifying in Cincinnati after a weak start.
Lilli Tagger, the top seed at the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, won her opening match on Tuesday after a challenging start. After dropping the first set 3-6 to China's Zhu Lin, she delivered a strong performance, winning the subsequent sets 6-1 and 6-1.
With this victory, Tagger advances to the second round of qualifying, where she will face American Robin Montgomery. Montgomery previously won against Austrian Julia Grabher with scores of 4-6, 7-5, and 6-3, thus missing a potential matchup with Tagger.
Sinja Kraus also successfully opened her qualifying campaign in Cincinnati, reports the Kurier. Like Tagger, Kraus battled through her match and secured her place in the next round of qualifying.
The qualifying days in Cincinnati are crucial for the players to secure a spot in the main draw of the prestigious tournament in Ohio. Tagger has been on a successful streak in the U.S. for several tournaments.
