The Italian company Lottomatica has finalized a merger agreement to absorb the Spanish operator Cirsa, creating one of the largest companies in the gaming sector globally. According to El País, the offer values Cirsa at around €2.8 billion, and combined, both companies reach a total business of €34 billion.

Expansión reports that this operation will result in an operator that positions itself as a worldwide leader in betting and gaming. The agreement comes a year after Cirsa went public and transfers ownership of the Spanish company, which was held by investment fund Blackstone, to Lottomatica.

According to El Mundo, Blackstone will retain a 24% stake in the new entity formed after the merger. Lottomatica's acquisition of Cirsa occurs within a context of growth in the betting and gaming sector.
