Lula reelected in Brazil; Bolsonaro demands election annulment
Lula da Silva won Brazil's presidential runoff with a narrow margin over Flávio Bolsonaro, who refuses to accept the result and announces plans to challenge it.

Lula da Silva has been reelected President of Brazil for a fourth term. According to data from the Superior Electoral Court, with 99.99% of votes counted, Lula obtained 52% of the vote against 48% for Flávio Bolsonaro in the presidential runoff.
The reelected President celebrated his victory, praising what he described as the defeat of denialism. During the celebrations, Lula also advocated for regulation of digital platforms.
Flávio Bolsonaro, the far-right candidate defeated in the runoff, refused to acknowledge the electoral result. The senator announced he will not accept the defeat and plans to request the annulment of the elections.

Bolsonaro justified his annulment request on the grounds of a two-hour extension to voting, which he characterized as unacceptable. The defeated candidate also directed criticism at the Supreme Federal Court in the context of his protest against the results.
In statements following the results, Bolsonaro said: "I will not give up on my Brazil and I hope you won't give up either," thereby refusing to accept his defeat at the ballot box.
The margin between the two candidates was described by sources as narrow, keeping the electoral competition a very close confrontation between the two contenders.
