Manchester City were beaten 2-1 away at Aston Villa on Saturday in their first competitive loss of the season. Nicolas Jackson scored both goals for Aston Villa.

With this defeat, Manchester City has lost its unbeaten status in the Premier League. The club had won all matches until this point and now retains its provisional lead with 21 points from eight games.

Arsenal drew level with Manchester City on the same day. The club beat Everton 2-0 and reached 21 points from the same number of matches as Manchester City. With this victory as defending champions, Arsenal recorded their seventh win of the season.

For Aston Villa, this was an important victory. The club started slowly this season and faced Manchester City as twelfth in the standings. As winners of the Europa League last season and as sixth-place finishers in the previous campaign, Aston Villa had not gone into this match as front-runners.

Jeremy Doku featured in the Manchester City lineup. Amadou Onana was absent from Aston Villa's side due to injury.
