Margarita Robles affirms that Ceuta and Melilla are "Spanish-ness"

Defense Minister Margarita Robles has stated that Ceuta and Melilla are "Spanish-ness" in response to Morocco's recent claims over these two autonomous cities. In a public address, Robles emphasized that any aggression against these localities would be considered an "attack on all of Spain," thereby reiterating the Spanish government's position on the sovereignty of these regions.

During her statements, Robles did not confirm whether she would appear before the Senate on August 18, avoiding details about her plans regarding this issue. However, she highlighted the importance of addressing the migration crisis related to the region and the need to enforce the law against human trafficking mafias.

The minister's comments followed Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska's minimization of Morocco's declared intentions, which assert rights over Ceuta and Melilla. Grande-Marlaska stated that these references "carry no weight," indicating a firm stance from the government regarding this situation.

In her speech, Robles also called for the full weight of the law to be applied to organizations involved in human trafficking, expressing concern for safety and well-being in these border areas of Spain.

Robles' defense of the sovereignty of Ceuta and Melilla comes in the context of growing tensions between Spain and Morocco, particularly concerning issues related to migration and security in the Mediterranean.
