The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has appointed Margarita Robles, the current Minister of Defense, as his 'number two' on the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) candidate list for the upcoming general elections. This decision resembles his choice in the 2016 elections, where Robles held a prominent position on the ballot.

In addition to Robles, the Madrid list for Congress will include other ministers such as Félix Bolaños and Fernando Grande-Marlaska, as well as figures close to Sánchez and Aránzazu Figueroa from the Socialist Youth. Pilar Sánchez Acera is also among those selected for a prominent spot on the list.

The creation of these lists has generated attention, as it represents a critical moment in deciding who will go to the polls in the upcoming legislature. These selection processes can create tensions within the party, especially in an electoral context that seeks to optimize the positions of its candidates.

The announcement comes at a time of restructuring following the crisis in Ceuta, where Robles' management has been positively evaluated, particularly as she is seen as a counterbalance in the Executive against the challenges that the Government has faced, including the complicated relationship among some of its members.

On the other hand, Robles' appointment could be interpreted as Sánchez's attempt to offset the perception of 'podemization' in his government, aiming for an image of moderation by allowing a firm and experienced figure to occupy a key position in the electoral campaign.

According to reports, the latest poll from the Sociological Research Center (CIS) suggests that PSOE not only could maintain its support but might also win the elections scheduled for November 29, reaching 34% of the votes and gaining a significant advantage over the People's Party.
