Mattarella on the Marcinelle Tragedy: "Respect for Human Dignity in Migration Management"
The President of the Republic speaks on the 70th anniversary of the Marcinelle mining disaster.

During the ceremony for the seventieth anniversary of the Marcinelle tragedy, the President of the Republic emphasized the importance of managing migration flows with respect for human dignity. This commemorative event took place at Bois du Cazier, the site of one of the most severe workplace accidents in European history on August 8, 1956.
In the mining disaster, 262 workers lost their lives, including 132 Italians. The President remembered the victims, expressing his condolences and acknowledging their sacrifice in the context of Italian emigration. The commemoration highlighted the connection between the past and present in the management of migrations.
