Police controls antifascist activists in Charleroi during commemoration
During the commemoration of the mine disaster in Marcinelle, police violently suppressed an action by antifascist activists.
On Saturday morning, the Charleroi police intervened against several antifascist activists at the Bois du Cazier site. The activists were protesting against the presence of Italian far-right politicians at the commemoration of the mine disaster that occurred in 1956.
According to reports, the police forcefully seized a banner and flyers from the activists. This action led to unrest at the commemoration, which was intended to honor the victims of the disaster.
Prime Minister Bart De Wever shared a video message on platform X in memory of the victims, independent of the events at the site. This message coincided with the incidents surrounding the antifascist action.
