Janar Akajew, the mayor of Osh, announced in an interview that he proposes the removal of the sacred mountain SuLayman-Too from the UNESCO World Heritage list. This statement has already caused controversies, as several stakeholders, including former ministers, have reacted critically to the idea.

According to Kaktus.media, Akajew specifically stated that it would be better to withdraw from UNESCO rather than keep SuLayman-Too on the list, which has led to ongoing discussions about the mountain's status. The proposal is a sensitive issue that could impact Kyrgyzstan's image.

The Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan responded to the mayor's proposal, stating that it would not support the idea of exclusion. The Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, Mirbek Mambetaliev, emphasized that such changes are not in the country's interest.

Former Minister of Culture Sultan Rae also contributed to the discussion, reminding that it took the country nearly a decade to gain the status of SuLayman-Too as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He labeled the current efforts to change that status as nonsense.
