Minister and IL criticize housing statements by IHRU chief
Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz and the Liberal Initiative's parliamentary leader both challenged remarks by the IHRU president on young people and housing.

Infrastructure and Housing Minister Miguel Pinto Luz said he found the statements made by IHRU president Benjamim Pereira on young people and the housing problem regrettable. Pinto Luz reaffirmed this position in an interview with TVI's Jornal Nacional on Thursday evening and indicated he had already requested clarification on the remarks in question.
Liberal Initiative parliamentary leader Mário Amorim Lopes also deemed the IHRU president's statements regrettable. He expressed this view in remarks to journalists at parliament, responding to the housing chief's comments.

Benjamim Pereira responded with a statement sent to newsrooms, denying that he had suggested young people should emigrate. The IHRU president clarified that he "never said that young people did not face difficulties or were not suffering." Speaking to journalists, he described the claim that he had proposed emigration as "a lie."
Despite the controversy, Miguel Pinto Luz assured that Benjamim Pereira's position is not at stake. The minister deemed the explanations provided by the IHRU president following the regrettable remarks to be "sufficient."
