The Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) has accused Rui Cristina, mayor of the Municipal Chamber of Albufeira, of discrimination and incitement to hatred, as revealed by the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Évora. Statements made during a Municipal Assembly included remarks that led to these accusations, specifically directed at the Romani community.

Rui Cristina, who is a member of the Chega party, has rejected the accusations, claiming that he is being persecuted by the MP. The mayor defended himself by stating that his words were misinterpreted and that he did not intend to incite hatred.

The situation has sparked diverse reactions and raises questions about freedom of expression and the responsibility of politicians regarding their public statements, especially on sensitive issues such as discrimination against minorities.
