Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has begun his house arrest following the settlement of a RM50 million fine, which was paid by his party Umno. The payment was completed on November 6, enabling Najib to leave Kajang Prison, where he had been serving a sentence linked to corruption charges, particularly related to the 1MDB scandal.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court issued an order for Najib's house arrest after the fine was settled. Reports indicate that the payment was structured as part of a solidarity fund created for Najib. This development follows a royal pardon granted by King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar in September, allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence at home until August 2028.

Despite the transition to house arrest, there are unresolved legal questions that have been raised regarding the conditions of his pardon. The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has suggested that the implementation of Najib's house arrest should be temporarily postponed, stating that it involves complex legal issues that require further clarification.

In response to Najib's release for house arrest, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced his resignation. He had previously pledged to step down if Najib was released from jail, and he confirmed his decision upon Najib’s transition to house arrest.

Rosmah Mansor, Najib’s wife, denied any knowledge of the arrangements regarding the RM50 million payment intended to facilitate her husband's transition to house arrest. She stated that media reports often contain inaccuracies.

Legal analysts and political figures are now monitoring the situation closely as Najib serves his sentence at home. The complexities surrounding his legal status and the implications of the royal pardon continue to prompt discussions among legal experts and the public.
