Planned protests by the initiative 'Gen Z regelt' took place in several German cities, aimed at raising awareness for social justice, climate protection, and better education. Organizers expect over 160,000 participants but report lower turnout in some locations. According to reports from Berlin, Leipzig, and Dresden, several thousand people gathered, while only a few hundred attended demonstrations in cities like Frankfurt am Main, Munich, and Nuremberg.

The protests were largely peaceful, but there were also riots, particularly in Frankfurt am Main and Cologne. In Frankfurt, several shop windows were damaged by vandals, and police reports indicated that officers were injured. Additionally, there were incidents of bottles and fireworks being thrown in Berlin, while Hamburg saw burning barricades reported.

According to reports, police forces deployed water cannons in some cities and took action against the use of pyrotechnics. Despite the riots, large-scale violence remained largely absent throughout the afternoon of the protests, as several media outlets noted.

This wave of protests is part of a larger movement of young people in Europe advocating for their causes. In countries like France, a similar number of people are demonstrating for social justice, where riots and police use of tear gas have already been reported.

In the mentioned cities, organizers and participants from various youth groups expressed that their concerns are often not taken seriously. Observers report that frustration over societal and political ignorance towards the issues facing the younger generation is at the heart of this wave of protests.

The Gen Z protests simultaneously address the questions and concerns that occupy young people today, including issues such as education, climate protection, and living costs. They reflect a desire for change and active representation of their interests at the political level.
