UGT calls for national minimum wage above 1,000 euros in January 2027
UGT has outlined its demands for 2026-2027, emphasizing the need for a minimum wage exceeding one thousand euros next year.

The national secretariat of UGT (General Union of Workers) has approved its advocacy policy for the years 2026 and 2027, highlighting the demand for the national minimum wage to be set above one thousand euros in January 2027. This demand was emphasized in a statement issued by the organization, which underscores the importance of this goal.
In addition to salary increases, the union center announced that this strategy includes prioritizing collective bargaining and combating precariousness in the labor market. Strengthening labor rights is also among UGT's focus areas for the near future.
Another issue addressed in UGT's policy relates to the digital and climate transitions, advocating that these should be carried out in a socially just manner. The union center aims to ensure that structural changes in the economy do not compromise workers' rights.

The discussion around the minimum wage has intensified, especially in the context of inflation and rising living costs. Former Socialist Minister José Vieira da Silva has also commented on the lack of a clear strategy from the Government, noting that the negotiation of various matters on the sidelines of the State Budget has undervalued this essential document for public finance management.
UGT has stressed that the proposal for a minimum wage should be realized in a coordinated and timely manner, emphasizing the need to ensure decent conditions for workers in Portugal. The focus on salary enhancement aligns with the expectations of many unions and labor groups in the country.
UGT's demands highlight the intention to create a fairer and more rewarding work environment. The implementation of a minimum wage above one thousand euros is seen as a necessary measure to improve the lives of workers and enhance their quality of life.
