NEC experienced a disappointing defeat against Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the first play-off match for the Champions League on Wednesday evening. The match, held in Nijmegen, ended 1-3 in favor of the visitors.

Coach Dick Schreuder's team fell behind early and was down 0-2 at halftime. Despite a resurgence in the closing stages of the match, NEC could not prevent the Norwegians from securing the victory.

Bodø/Glimt, who made their Champions League debut last season and reached the Round of 16, demonstrated their effectiveness and capitalized on defensive errors from NEC, according to various reports.

With NEC needing to put in a strong performance in the return leg, their chances heading into the second match in Norway appear bleak. To advance to the main tournament, NEC will have to achieve a significantly better result.

The defeat has not sat well with NEC's board members and supporters, especially since the club approached this edition with enthusiasm. Experts estimate that the Champions League anthem was likely heard for the last time at De Goffert.

The next meeting between NEC and Bodø/Glimt is scheduled for next week, where the Nijmegen team will attempt to turn the tide.
