New Blood Donation Rules Take Effect in Brazil
The new regulation from the Ministry of Health for blood donation goes into effect on Wednesday (30) across Brazil, including significant changes to eligibility criteria.

The new blood donation rules established by the Ministry of Health come into effect this Wednesday, August 30, throughout Brazil. These changes aim to simplify and expand the eligibility of potential donors, making the process more accessible.
Among the main changes is the reduction of the deferral period for people who have had tattoos or cosmetic procedures, which previously could take months before candidates could donate again. Now, these time frames have been significantly shortened.
Another important change allows regular donors to continue donating blood after the age of 70, a measure aimed at encouraging the ongoing participation of elderly individuals in this act of solidarity.

Additionally, a specific rule has been introduced for individuals using shared devices for administering injectable medications, allowing for a more detailed assessment of their eligibility to donate.
These changes have been implemented with the goal of increasing the quantity of blood available at blood banks, which in many places face shortages of this vital resource. The Hemorrede in Paraná, for example, is one of the entities that directly benefits from these new guidelines.
The updates reflect a continuous effort by the government to meet the demand for blood, while also improving the donor experience and encouraging more inclusive donation practices.
