New King Haakon VIII Meets Norwegian Cabinet Following Death of Harald V
King Haakon VIII received the Norwegian cabinet and his daughter Ingrid Alexandra following the death of his father, King Harald V.

A few hours after the death of King Harald V, the new King Haakon VIII met with the Norwegian cabinet at the palace in Oslo. The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Støre and other ministers, was organized to officially inform the government of the passing of the former head of state.
King Harald V passed away at the age of 89 at the National Hospital in Oslo, where he died from complications of a blood disease. His death marks the end of a reign lasting over 35 years.
Haakon VIII, 53 years old, has stated that he will follow in his father's footsteps by taking the name Haakon VIII. This was confirmed by the Norwegian royal house on Friday. He is the only son of Harald V.

During the emergency meeting, Prime Minister Støre and other cabinet members had the opportunity to express their condolences to the new head of state and his 22-year-old daughter, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra.
The meeting also noted that there are challenges ahead for the new royal house, which Haakon VIII will now face. The timing of his ascension is reportedly complex due to the circumstances surrounding his father's death.
The Norwegian royal house has confirmed Haakon VIII's succession with these words. It is still unclear how the royal house will further respond to the situation in the coming days.
