The Council of Fiscal and Financial Policy met to discuss the new regional financing model proposed by the Spanish government. According to a report by El Mundo, the Minister of Finance for the Community of Madrid, Rocío Albert, announced she would not attend the meeting in an attempt to prevent the necessary quorum for the vote.

In the voting, only Catalonia and the Canary Islands supported the proposal. The communities of Castilla-La Mancha and Asturias, both governed by the PSOE, opposed it, along with the majority of communities led by the Popular Party, who attended the meeting.

Infobae highlighted that with 90% of the autonomous communities opposing the new system, approval still faces a challenge, as an absolute majority in the Congress of Deputies is required for its final implementation.

Despite the objections, the Ministry of Finance managed to push the reform through, taking advantage of its parliamentary majority. The proposal was exclusively backed by the administrations of Catalonia and the Canary Islands, reported 20minutos.

On the other hand, the same outlet emphasized the stance of the PP-run communities, which are calling for the withdrawal of the model, considering their interests are not reflected in the new system.

The government, for its part, stated it is satisfied with the support received from the two communities, although the rejection from others may complicate its final approval in upcoming legislative sessions.
