The Council of Ministers has approved a reform of the Road Code that introduces new penalties for exceeding speed limits and modifies regulations regarding licenses and vehicle documents.

Fines for speeding will be set at 10 euros for every kilometer over the limit, featuring a system of adjustable penalties designed to reduce the burden on those who break the rules. Furthermore, the requirement to carry a paper license and vehicle registration document will be eliminated, as document verification will be possible through databases.

The new provisions also include a renewal of the category B driving license every ten years until the age of 65, and the possibility for drivers to engage in professional transport activities until the age of 70.

Other measures include increased penalties for driving without insurance, with heavier sanctions and simplified procedures for notifying fines, which now must be sent within 45 days of verification.

The age limit for truck drivers has been raised to 70 years to reflect the new rules, while a freeze on insurance inflation is anticipated for foreign vehicles.

The reform aims to modernize traffic management and improve road safety by introducing digitization of documents and faster procedures for violations.
