According to a new study published in the journal "Plos Medicine," at least 274,000 people worldwide die each year from snake bite-related complications. This estimate comes from an international research team that analyzed data from 79 countries over an 18-year period.

The research team points out that the actual number of victims may be significantly higher, with estimates reaching up to 513,000 deaths per year. Previous global figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) may therefore be underestimated.

Many reports suggest that the dangers posed by snake bites are largely underestimated in public perception. Most victims are found in sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the urgency of the issue.

The study has underscored the need to raise awareness about the dangers of snake bites and to develop preventive measures. The research findings could help enhance awareness of this health threat.

This new insight could also impact future health policies, particularly in affected regions, where many people lack access to necessary medical care. The discussion around proper documentation and treatment of snake bites may also be prompted.
