Quarantine in Siberian Hospitals Over Suspected Pneumonic Plague
Authorities have imposed a quarantine in several hospitals in Siberia following the death of a lab technician, while the White House and WHO are monitoring the situation.

Several hospitals in the Irkutsk region of Siberia have been closed for three weeks as a precautionary measure after a lab technician died from what is suspected to be pneumonic plague. Regional Governor Ígor Kobzev called an emergency meeting to address the situation following reports of a possible contagion of a ' particularly dangerous infection.'
Additionally, it has been confirmed that around a hundred nurses have been isolated in response to the alarm raised by the technician's death. Details surrounding the circumstances of her death have led authorities to investigate the possibility of an outbreak of the disease.
Russian authorities have denied any official alert regarding the imposition of restrictions or a reinforced health regime in the region, describing this information as 'false.' However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been notified of the situation and has requested more information from Russian authorities regarding the case.

For its part, the White House has stated that it is monitoring the developments. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed concern that the incident may have led to the spread of pneumonic plague, although he assured that there is no cause for alarm.
Reports about the disease have emerged amid growing public health concerns in the region. The death of the 28-year-old lab technician in a hospital in Shélejov has been a focal point of this unease.
Meanwhile, it has been noted that authorities are implementing a contingency plan to contain any potential outbreak, ensuring close monitoring of cases and an appropriate response in case symptoms arise among healthcare professionals and the general public.
