Opposition Protests Across India Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The Opposition, led by the INDIA bloc, has staged protests nationwide calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, leading to multiple detentions and disruptions.

Protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar escalated as leaders of the Opposition INDIA bloc organized a march to Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on October 10. According to reports from various sources, the march followed a meeting where 150 MPs from 16 different parties convened in the Central Hall of Parliament, signing a memorandum directed to President Murmu, demanding Kumar's resignation.
In Hyderabad, Telangana Congress leaders were detained while attempting to march to Lok Bhavan. According to The Hindu, a large number of activists joined the detained ministers at the police station, continuing their protest there.
In Bihar, RJD leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav, were also detained by police as they participated in a similar demonstration. The Hindustan Times reported that these leaders were escorted away from the area to clear the site of the protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

The larger anti-CEC demonstrations in Delhi had gained traction over four days, featuring heightened exchanges between the Opposition and the ruling BJP. As part of the protest, Delhi Police was on high alert, with over 23,000 security personnel deployed citywide amid extensive shutdowns of metro stations and train services, as reported by The Hindu and Hindustan Times.
Railway operations were significantly affected, with multiple train services cancelled or rescheduled due to the protests. Reports indicated that trains from key regions, including Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai, experienced substantial delays, impacting thousands of passengers during peak travel hours.
The plans of the INDIA bloc included marching on foot from the Central Hall to Rashtrapati Bhavan, with arrests anticipated wherever participants were stopped. This followed earlier days of protests, indicating sustained efforts to press their demands against the election authority.
