New Delhi has been heavily fortified ahead of a planned protest by the 'Cockroach' youth movement, which demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In preparation for the gathering, authorities deployed thousands of police and paramilitary personnel across central Delhi, where numerous metro stations were closed and mobile internet services were suspended, according to reports from various sources.

The protest, organized by the 'Cockroach' movement, is in response to a contentious revision of voter lists that opponents argue favors Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party. Markets in the area were also closed as part of the security measures initiated by the police in anticipation of potential unrest.

Reports indicate that police detained over 2,000 individuals on Saturday, including the founders of the 'Cockroach' youth movement, Abhijeet Dipke and other leaders. Their detention occurred at Delhi airport as they sought to participate in the protest, according to a report from CNA.

The police stated that the Cockroach Janata Party did not have the necessary permission to hold the rally. This decision has led to further ignitement of tensions in the capital, with the youth movement vowing to carry on with their demonstration despite the arrests and police presence.

In addition to the detentions, the capital's infrastructure was significantly altered, with central business district access blocked and a major traffic advisory issued. These actions mark a continuation of heightened security measures implemented during protests against government actions and policies.

The response to the proposed protest indicates a broader struggle surrounding electoral processes and governance in India, particularly in relation to opposition voices. The situation remains tense in the capital as the authorities seek to maintain order amidst the unrest.
