The new European package tax has generated 42.5 million euros for the Belgian treasury in July, according to customs authorities.

The European package tax came into effect on July 1, and in its first month, this scheme has generated 42.5 million euros for the Belgian treasury. These figures were published on Tuesday following a request from Het Laatste Nieuws to customs authorities.
The amount of 42.5 million euros was confirmed by VRT NWS, based on information provided by customs. Kristian Vanderwaeren from customs noted that while this amount is not spectacular, revenues are expected to increase in the coming months.
The package tax was introduced as part of European regulations and aims to regulate online orders from non-EU countries and increase tax revenues.
