The Panama Canal Authority has announced that it will limit the number of daily vessel transits starting on September 4. Under these new measures, the cap will be set at 34 vessels per day, with a further reduction to 32 vessels beginning on September 15.

This decision comes in response to forecasts indicating lower-than-average rainfall linked to the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to affect water levels in the canal. The canal's operator has highlighted that these changes are necessary to support the long-term sustainability of the waterway.

As the situation develops, the authorities will monitor water levels closely, assessing the impact on operations and adjusting transit limits as needed. This is part of broader efforts to manage the canal's water resources under changing climatic conditions.
