The party Livre, the Left Bloc (BE), and the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) have submitted a request for parliamentary review to debate the decree-law that established the Universal Social Grant (PSU). This request was made to the Assembly of the Republic to compel deputies to discuss the issue.

The three parties justify their initiative by accusing the government led by Luís Montenegro of failing to fulfill the promises made regarding the Universal Social Grant. They argue that the measure in question hampers the fight against poverty in Portugal.

According to the documentation presented, the political forces argue that the current system perpetuates poverty rather than alleviating it, thus failing to meet the promises that no one would be harmed by the changes in the social benefits system.

The PCP has not dismissed the possibility of requesting the cessation of the bill, which could open new lines of debate regarding the implementation and effectiveness of the Universal Social Grant during the parliamentary session.
