Penguin India Cites Editorial Disagreement Over Sonia Gandhi Memoir
Penguin Random House India has paused the publication of Sonia Gandhi's memoir due to an unresolved editorial issue, clarifying the decision was not due to external pressure.

Penguin Random House India (PRHI) has announced a pause in the publication of Sonia Gandhi's memoir, titled 'Belonging: A Journey of Love', due to what the publisher described as an impasse over a 'particular issue'. The publisher emphasized that this decision was not the result of any external pressure, but instead stemmed from routine editorial evaluations.
According to reports, discussions regarding the memoir resulted in some proposed changes being accepted, while others were not approved, leading to an unresolved matter that ultimately halted the book's release in India. The author's team has acknowledged this issue.

PRHI has not disclosed the specific contentious issue that caused the impasse, citing an 'agreement and author confidentiality'. This lack of transparency has resulted in speculation about the nature of the disagreement between the parties involved.
Despite the pause with PRHI, it has been announced that the memoir will still be published by Alfred A Knopf, a division of Penguin Random House, indicating the potential for its availability in other markets. PRHI was managing the Indian distribution of the memoir prior to this decision.
