Penguin India Withdraws from Publishing Sonia Gandhi's Memoir 'Belonging'
Penguin India has reportedly decided not to publish Sonia Gandhi’s memoir, sparking interest among other publishers to take on the project.

Penguin India has backed out of publishing Sonia Gandhi's memoir titled 'Belonging: A Journey of Love', which recounts her life from post-war Italy to her experiences with the Nehru-Gandhi family. The decision has elicited varied reactions in the publishing community, with several other publishers now expressing interest in the project.
Reports indicate that Penguin Random House India withdrew from the project after Sonia Gandhi declined to make certain 'editorial' changes suggested by the publisher. In response to these reports, a spokesperson for Penguin stated that the company had been keen to publish Gandhi's memoir and had never intended to drop it.

Despite the publisher's claims of interest, the Congress party has raised questions about Penguin India's reluctance to proceed with the book's publication, contrasting it with the willingness of Penguin Books globally. The party has sought clarification regarding the decision.
The spokesperson for Penguin India also mentioned that they would refrain from commenting on the specifics of confidential discussions with the author. Meanwhile, the search for a new publisher for 'Belonging' is underway amidst this ongoing development.
