Peru breaks diplomatic relations with Iran
The Peruvian government has severed diplomatic ties with Iran, citing incitement to violence and obstruction of nuclear inspections as reasons for its decision.

The government of Peru has decided to break diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. This measure is based on several points, including the accusation that Iran has incited violence and escalated conflicts in the Middle East.
Furthermore, the Peruvian government has highlighted Iran's obstruction of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), noting that the country has repeatedly denied access to its nuclear facilities for inspectors from the agency.
The administration of President Keiko Fujimori emphasized that this decision reflects a 'historic pacifist vocation' of Peru and a commitment to respect for international law.

From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, concerns were also raised about the internal repression of the Iranian regime and the restrictions imposed in the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the severing of diplomatic relations, it has been indicated that consular ties between the two countries will remain, although the details of how these relations will be managed going forward are yet to be determined.
