Police dismantle housing protest camp at Rossio Square
Demonstrators camping at Lisbon's Rossio Square to demand affordable housing saw their tents removed by police in an overnight operation.

Housing activists in Lisbon erected tents at Rossio Square on Saturday. According to SAPO 24, Acampada de Lisboa had returned to the square after police had previously dismantled an earlier encampment and detained 55 people. The mobilisation also spread to Porto, where protesters took to the streets again.
Thousands of people gathered at Rossio in protest for the right to housing. Tents were pitched throughout the day as demonstrators prepared to stay at the location. However, one housing movement decided against spending the night at the square that evening, though it pledged to return the following day.

Police cordoned off the demonstrators at Rossio and ordered the tents to be removed. Around 02:00, officers moved in on the encampment to dismantle the structures set up by the protesters.
An undetermined number of injured people were treated on site during the police operation, according to RTP reporting. Precise details about the exact number of those affected were not specified.
