The political climate has intensified following remarks by some Congress leaders who referred to Sajjan Kumar as a 'role model.' This has triggered backlash from various groups, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who criticized the Congress for its tributes to Kumar.

Approximately 200 Sikh community representatives and families of 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims gathered near Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi to protest. They demanded an apology and his resignation, leading to several detentions among the demonstrators.

Despite the political backlash from outside Punjab, the Punjab Congress leadership has not yet commented on the issue and has remained silent regarding the situation.
