Punjab Congress Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring Resigns Amid Internal Strife
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned as the Punjab Congress chief, with a successor expected to be named soon as the party faces upcoming elections.

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned as the head of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, a position he held since April 2022. His departure comes as the party prepares for upcoming Assembly elections in Punjab, scheduled to take place early next year. Warring's resignation follows a series of internal disputes within the party, particularly highlighted by recent feedback from meetings held by Congress leader Sachin Pilot with state functionaries.
The resignation was officially submitted to Rahul Gandhi, who appointed Warring to the post. Warring, while stepping down, noted that his position was not dependent on anyone's favor and emphasized that nobody can remain at the top forever.
In the wake of his resignation, multiple candidates are rumored to be in contention to succeed Warring. Former minister Vijay Inder Singla is considered the frontrunner, while Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa are also being mentioned as potential successors. The party is keen to select a new leader who can effectively manage social and regional dynamics as it heads into a crucial election period.

Warring's exit has triggered reactions at the district level within the Punjab Congress, reflecting the ongoing political turbulence in the party. He had recently initiated a weekly dialogue with Congress workers via social media, aiming to maintain close ties with grassroots members as electoral activities ramp up.
The internal struggles leading to Warring's resignation have been noted as stemming from long-standing issues within the Punjab Congress, particularly amidst tensions involving various party leaders. For example, rivalries have emerged with figures such as Ravneet Bittu, who has publicly criticized Warring, further complicating the political landscape as the party seeks stability ahead of the elections.
As the Punjab Congress prepares to choose Warring's successor, the party's leadership faces the challenge of consolidating support while navigating through ongoing disputes. This leadership transition is particularly pivotal given the approaching election timeline, which has heightened the urgency for a unified and effective command.
