Congress Reshuffles Leadership in Punjab Ahead of Elections
Sachin Pilot replaces Bhupesh Baghel as Congress general secretary for Punjab in a significant organizational change.

The Indian National Congress has appointed Sachin Pilot as the new general secretary for Punjab, succeeding Bhupesh Baghel. This leadership change is part of a broader organizational reshuffle within the party as it prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
According to various reports, this change is seen as crucial amid ongoing factionalism within the Punjab unit. Tensions have arisen between the factions led by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and current Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.

Bhupesh Baghel previously held the position from February 2025 and had expressed a preference for retaining Raja Warring in his role. However, he became a target for criticism from other factions, particularly Channi's camp, leading to this significant leadership transition.
Additionally, Surjewala has been assigned to Gujarat, while Sukhdeo Bhagat will take over the AICC in-charge of Chhattisgarh. Other appointments include Sirivella Prasad for Maharashtra and P.V. Mohan for Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the party's strategic organizational adjustments ahead of the polls.
