During the Angelus, Pope Leo XIV announced the need for surgery to remove a lung nodule, confirming his hospitalization at the Gemelli Polyclinic.

Pope Leo XIV announced today during the Angelus that he will undergo surgery to remove a lung nodule. He specified that the nodule was identified at a very early stage and is well-localized, as indicated by doctors.
The procedure is scheduled for the coming days, and the Pope will be hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, probably on Tuesday, for a stay of about a week.
During the announcement, Leo XIV expressed gratitude to the faithful for their support and prayers received.

Despite the operation, the Pontiff confirmed that he will maintain his travel plans to Peru, scheduled for November 6 to 17.
Vatican sources further emphasized that the surgery was advised by doctors, and the Pope has chosen to follow their recommendations.
While awaiting hospitalization, the Pope invited the faithful to continue praying for him, highlighting the importance of spiritual support during this time.
