Pope Leo XIV admitted to Gemelli for lung nodule removal
The pontiff has been hospitalized at Policlinico Gemelli for a scheduled operation. All audiences until October 20 have been canceled.

Pope Leo XIV has been admitted to the Policlinico Gemelli in Rome to undergo surgery for the removal of a lung nodule. The hospitalization occurred in the late morning, as announced by the Vatican Press Office.
The nodule was discovered during routine check-ups. The pontiff had already addressed the issue during last Sunday's Angelus, where he shared the news with the faithful.
The surgery is being performed by the thoracic surgery team led by Professor Stefano Margaritora. A week of post-operative hospitalization is anticipated, with all audiences canceled until October 20, as highlighted by various sources.

Despite the hospitalization, the Vatican has expressed optimism about the pontiff's state of mind, noting that he is in good spirits. However, his agenda has undergone significant changes, including the cancellation of scheduled events.
Preparations for the pontiff's trip to South America, scheduled from November 6 to 17, are ongoing and currently confirmed. The Holy See has stated that no changes are planned for this trip. In this regard, Matteo Bruni, director of the Vatican Press Office, provided updates on the situation.
Pope Leo XIV arrived at the hospital around 1:10 PM, welcomed by dozens of faithful and healthcare staff. Information regarding the post-operative course and the timing of the procedure has been reported by various outlets.
