President Murmu Approves Vande Mataram Bill for Legal Protection
The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, has been signed into law by President Murmu, ensuring legal protection for Vande Mataram.
President Murmu has given his assent to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026. This legislation amends the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, to provide Vande Mataram with the same legal protections as the National Anthem.
The bill criminalizes any act of insult against Vande Mataram. Previously, the original act addressed insults against the National Anthem by prohibiting intentional disturbances during its singing and related activities.
