President Zardari Approves Appointments of Additional High Court Judges
The President's assent ends a weeks-long deadlock over judicial appointments in Pakistan.
On Tuesday, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment of 19 additional judges to five high courts in Pakistan, concluding a prolonged impasse regarding these judicial positions. The appointments include 10 judges to the Lahore High Court (LHC), three to the Sindh High Court (SHC), three to the Islamabad High Court (IHC), three to the Peshawar High Court (PHC), and three to the Balochistan High Court (BHC).
In addition to the new appointments, the President confirmed the permanent status of another five judges. This decision marks an end to a weeks-long deadlock between the Presidency and the government that had previously stalled judicial appointments.
The approval comes as part of ongoing efforts to address judicial vacancies and enhance the functioning of the high courts across the country.
