September 28 marks the entry into force of the price cap on fuels established by Eni, with a limit of €1.99 per liter for gasoline and €2.19 per liter for diesel. This measure will have an initial duration of 30 days, with the possibility of extending it until the end of the year, according to Sky TG24.

Additionally, the Azerbaijani company Socar has announced it will also impose price limits on its IP network. However, details on what the maximum price per liter will be have not yet been disclosed. This initiative from Socar is expected to begin today as well, to reinforce its commitment in Italy, according to ANSA and Rai News.

The changes to fuel prices have raised concerns among independent gas station operators, who fear that the measure could negatively impact competition and their business activities. Furthermore, according to Figisc, this move could have destabilizing effects on the distribution market.

Currently, the prices for diesel on the road network are €2.377 per liter and €2.159 per liter for gasoline, while at motorway service stations, costs can reach €2.459 for diesel and €2.254 for gasoline, as reported by Rai News and la Repubblica.

Along with the implementation of the cap, Eni's shares rose by 1.5% on the stock market. However, there has not yet been a recorded decrease in prices at IP stations, as reported by ANSA.

The implementation of price limits has met with a mixed reaction, with some market participants praising the initiative for its potential benefits to consumers, while others express concerns about long-term sustainability and competitiveness in the sector. The situation remains evolving and will be closely monitored.
