The Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Chega have reached an agreement to amend the government proposal related to the New Urban Lease Regime. This understanding, signed on Wednesday between the president of Chega and the parliamentary leader of the PSD, will enable the government proposal to be discussed in detail in Parliament.

The two parties, after negotiations, outlined a set of four amendments demanded by Chega to support the revision of urban leasing legislation. With this abstention from Chega, Parliament has given the green light for the law revision, which is now subject to further discussions.

The government's proposal aimed to revise the existing urban leasing legislation, and the signing of the agreement was seen as an important step for its progression in Parliament. With this agreement, the PSD, which has already been in favor of the revision, finds an ally in Chega to advance its legislative ambitions.

According to reports, Chega used its position to negotiate amendments it considers essential to improve the executive's proposal. The specifics of these amendments have not yet been widely disclosed, but their impact on the legislation could be significant.

While PSD and Chega collaborate on the lease revision, the Livre party expressed its concerns about this alliance. The spokesperson for Livre stated that it was evident that Chega would support this revision, arguing that the right-wing factions had united efforts to facilitate evictions and hinder access to housing.

As events unfold, the implications of the legislative revision on the leasing market and housing conditions for the Portuguese population continue to be a topic of debate, reflecting the divergent opinions among the parties present in the Assembly of the Republic.
