On Sunday, the United Russia party, led by Vladimir Putin, won the legislative elections in Russia, according to multiple sources. Official results indicate that it garnered about 57.5% of the votes, a score similar to that of 2021, while opposition parties critical of the government were not allowed to participate in the vote.

The elections were marred by incidents such as hacking and Ukrainian drone attacks. Moscow has promised a response to these attacks. The results come from a count that covered three-quarters of the votes as the voting day concluded.

Media outlets such as La Libre Belgique and Le Figaro also reported the lack of surprise in the election outcome, which was anticipated due to the political conditions in Russia, characterized by repression of dissenting voices and a limited electoral environment. The only political formations that participated were those supporting the Kremlin and the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine.

Analyses have highlighted that this election is not merely a standard democratic process, but that the results bolster the legitimacy of the ruling government. A report indicated that the procedures surrounding the vote lacked transparency, raising concerns about the independence of the electoral process.

The results of this election could be interpreted as an indicator of the political dynamics in Russia, where dissent and opposition have been systematically stifled. International observers and some media noted that this context negatively affected voter turnout and the expression of local public opinions.

The situation in Ukraine remains tense, and the Central Election Commission of Russia reported that security measures were in place to prevent possible disruptions during the vote. Nevertheless, the campaign was often mocked on social media, where many users criticized the electoral process.
