The environmental association Quercus has called on municipalities to establish climate refuges. This proposal emerges within the framework of the Grow with Tourism Program, which is aimed at municipal chambers and parish councils. The goal of the network is to enhance spaces that are accessible and thermally comfortable, providing a safe environment for citizens during periods of extreme heat.

The initiative, as reported, aims to ensure that communities have access to prepared locations to face high temperatures. The creation of these refuges can help mitigate the adverse effects of climate on populations, especially the more vulnerable ones.

Quercus hopes that municipalities will recognize the importance of this network and mobilize to implement solutions that benefit the health and well-being of citizens. In this way, the actions of the municipal chambers and parish councils can contribute to a higher quality of life in their areas of intervention.

The request comes in a context of growing concern over climate change and its direct impacts on communities, highlighting the need for adaptations to extreme weather conditions.
