Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders were released from detention after being taken into custody during a sit-in protest at Akashvani Bhawan in Delhi. The protest was aimed at demanding a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and addressing concerns about alleged irregularities related to the SIR.

The situation escalated as members of the Opposition, part of the INDIA bloc, marched from Parliament towards the Election Commission's office, asserting their demand for Kumar's resignation. Amidst heavy police presence, traffic was regulated in surrounding areas to manage the influx of protesters.

Reports indicated that the Election Commission was informed by the Delhi Police around 4 PM about the delegation of MPs wanting to meet with the Commission. This action followed a series of protests led by several key figures, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and K. C. Venugopal.

The protests at Akashvani Bhawan began after the planned march to the Election Commission headquarters was halted. Gandhi, who described the SIR issue as 'treason,' echoed calls for the removal of Kumar and the restoration of voters previously removed from electoral rolls.

As the protest unfolded, videos captured Gandhi entering Akashvani Bhawan, located close to the Election Commission office. The Congress party described their actions as exercising their constitutional right to protest peacefully.

Additionally, an FIR was filed against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for entering Akashvani Bhawan without permission. This incident occurred after an earlier protest march, which involved approximately 300 Opposition lawmakers, emphasizing their demand for accountability from the Election Commission.
