Portugal's Foreign Minister, Rangel, stated that no new measures from the European Union (EU) regarding the settlements in the West Bank are expected until the Israeli elections scheduled for October. Rangel emphasized this position in a recent statement, highlighting the difficulty of reaching a European consensus before that date.

Despite Portugal advocating for a suspension of trade with the settlements, Rangel acknowledges that achieving consensus among EU Member States may be complicated. Portugal's stance is clear, but the political realities and agendas of other member countries complicate the implementation of more immediate new measures.

The minister also mentioned that partners like the United Kingdom may act independently before European alignment occurs. This dynamic suggests that approaches to the West Bank issue may vary among Member States, depending on their national priorities.

Rangel did not specify what type of measures might be discussed in the future, but reiterated Portugal's position on the need for a coordinated response from the EU. The situation in the Palestinian territories remains a source of tension in European and international politics.

The elections in Israel, scheduled for October, are viewed as an important milestone that could influence Israeli policy regarding the settlements. There is an expectation that any EU stance may become clearer following this event.

The discussion regarding the settlements in the West Bank includes recent debates about the legality and consequences of related trade; however, up to now, no concrete advances have been announced by the EU. Rangel reiterated that Portugal's position should be considered in light of the overall consensus that is difficult to achieve.
