Regional and Municipal Elections 2026: Security Deployment and Voter Participation
On October 4, Regional and Municipal Elections 2026 take place in Peru with extensive security measures and participation from millions of citizens.

The National Police of Peru (PNP) will deploy 57,738 personnel across the country to ensure security during the Regional and Municipal Elections 2026, which will be held on Sunday, October 4. This operation includes the protection of polling places, as well as the transportation, custody, and retrieval of electoral materials.
In Lima and other regions, polling station members must arrive by 6 a.m. to organize the materials and prepare the spaces before the electoral day begins. Polling stations will open at 7 a.m., and it is expected that over 26 million citizens will come to cast their votes to elect new regional and municipal authorities.
This event includes the election of a district mayor in Alto Trujillo, where over 25,000 voters will exercise their voting rights in what is seen as a historic day for the district in La Libertad.

As the voting process continues, the Prosecutor’s Office has reported 153 incidents and 33 arrests so far, according to a preliminary assessment. The situation is being closely monitored in various regions of the country throughout the electoral day.
The electoral authority has warned that if a voter refuses to serve on the polling station, a procedure will be initiated before the Special Electoral Jury, which could result in financial penalties, even for those not previously drawn to participate.
Public figures have participated in this event, such as host Magaly Medina, who exercised her right to vote in La Molina, along with other citizens who showed commitment to the electoral process and captured moments of their participation. The electoral atmosphere is filled with great anticipation among voters.
