Rescue of baby and woman following earthquake in Colombia
In Colombia, a six-month-old baby and his mother, along with another woman, were rescued after the earthquake, as the death toll continues to rise.
Rescue teams in Colombia have recovered a six-month-old baby and his mother from the rubble of a collapsed building. Following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake on Monday, it was reported that both have survived. The rescue operation took place amidst the destruction and provided a glimmer of hope.
As of Tuesday, authorities reported more than 200 casualties following the earthquake, with fears that this number could continue to rise. Over 2,000 people are still missing, and the exact circumstances and conditions of those unaccounted for remain unclear.
Reports also emerged of a woman who had been trapped for nearly 30 hours under the debris of a building and was rescued alive. The rescue operation lasted about 16 hours, as emergency personnel had to work several meters deep to reach her.
The fire department stated that the woman is doing well under the circumstances. Despite initial successes in the rescue operations, the situation remains tense, as people are still missing and the search continues.
